Installing Concrete Driveways

There is no doubt that the proper installation of the concrete driveways will add value to your home. However, if the concrete driveways are not installed in an appropriate manner then you have to face some problems in the long run. Therefore, it is very much essential that the process of installing the concrete driveways must be undertaken with proper care and attention.

Firstly, the contractor has to analyze the purpose for which the driveway is to be prepared. If the driveway is to be prepared for the cars then the concrete should be three to four inches thick. On the other hand, if the driveway is to be prepared for the purpose of moving trucks then the concrete must four to five inches thick. The contractor has to make sure that the surface beneath the earth is quite soft. Then the next step of the contractor is to prepare a subgrade and slope the land. Then the soil must be compressed before going to add concrete on to it.

Inserting some amount of expansion joints, wire mesh, etc in the concrete can help a great deal in mitigating the driveways from cracking. In some cases the concrete can shrink. This occurs when a too much concrete is poured on to same surface. In order to eliminate this problem the correct measurement of the amount of concrete to be poured must be undertaken.

Sometimes, the control joints are inserted with the driveways. This is done in order to prevent the driveways from cracking. Inserting control joints with the concrete makes the cracks less noticeable to the visitors who visit your house. One important point of consideration that should be kept in mind while inserting the control joints is that they should be placed no more than twelve feet apart for a four inch thick driveway.

Some contractors in order to make the concrete strong use the non-breakable steel. This steel helps in holding the cracked the slabs together. It also helps in preventing the cracks from enlarging. The contractor must install the steel not more than two inches below the surface of the concrete. Thus, it is very much critical that the work of installation of the concrete driveways must be carried by the experienced contractors.
